What is it?
They are related changes over the years to occur in the macula (retina).
What is the macula?
The macula is part of the retina and is what allows us to have central vision and attention to detail.
Who are the people who may have the disease?
Over 50s
Family history of the disease age-
People exposed to the sun for a long time
Hypertension, diabetes and smoking
What are the symptoms?
Symptoms range from alteration in the form of objects to loss of central vision (you see a black spot in the center).
How is it diagnosed?
With an eye exam with the retina specialist and is complemented by studies of digital angiography and OCT of the macula.
How is macular disease, age-
Wet AMD (macular degeneration wet)
• Photodynamic Therapy
• Intravitreal antiangiogenic Therapy
Dry AMD (macular degeneration dry)
• Treat with oral multivitamins.
